The Press

There were just over two minutes left in the game and we were behind by ten points. Things looked pretty bleak. No, it wasn’t at the “big dance.” It wasn’t even the state championship basketball game. I was a on a 9th grade basketball team and we were playing the junior varsity team from a near-by town. The coach had us go into a full court press. Our press was smothering. The other team fell apart. In those two minutes we scored 22 points and the opponents scored 2. We won the game because of our full court press.

The Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (PCUSA) is down by more than ten points and its back is to the wall. But it’s not a game. It is in a fight for its very life. It is time for a full court press!

This blog, called “Full Court Presby” is my attempt to present the issues to my local church, its leadership and to any that will take the time to read this blog. The first phase of this blog will end on June 22, 2006, when the General Assembly of the PCUSA concludes it biannual meeting. The direction of the second phase of this blog will be determined by the actions of the General Assembly.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
